Don't know about the future, that's anybody's guess

I was at the gym today and CBS was on one of the TVs. John Goodman has a new show -- at least it was new to me -- "Center of the Universe". First I thought it was pretty funny that such a fat fat man would call himself the center of the universe, like he was so fat that he actually put off his own gravitational field.

Whatever, what really struck me was the credits at the end of the show. All these sitcoms have "creators". Without passing judgement on the genre, how much creativity really goes into the concept of these shows?

You have a family, preferably disfunctional, with a hottish wife (attractive yet not unattainable) and a schmuck husband. There's a crazy/rich/alcoholic father/brother/neighbor that lives next door/upstairs/under a rock. Throw in an alien life form/English butler/robot daughter/two guys/a pizza place and there you go.
