In the Future ...
Two changes which will occur in American English in the next 50 years:
1. Words such as "connection" and "direction" will begin to be spelled with an "X", as in "connexion" and "direxion".
2. The word "affect" will disappear completely and we will just use "effect" for everything. Nobody understands the difference anyway -- God knows I don't.
I'm all for these changes.
