Lent --

2 Doors, 617 Horses, One Easy Payment of $2.1 Million

Today is the beginning of the holiest time of the year.

Ascetism is an important component of Christianity, and Jesus is the perfect example of self denial as a path to holiness. Why antimaterialism and truth/virtue/holiness have been so closely linked is a tough one, but it certainly does seem to have the ring of truth to it.

Polemicists have their own version of this ascetic=holy equation that goes something like:

"Rich people want poor people to think that their position in life is virtuous and will be rewarded in the hereafter so that they can continue their materialistic ways without compeition."

You have to believe what you believe, because reason can always show you both sides of anything. Philosophy has been going on for thousands of years, and not one of the fundamental issues is any closer to being solved.

Anyway, that's why Catholics give things up -- self denial as a means to greater holiness in the example of the Son of God.

P.S. Buying million dollar cars is not a good start.
