It rings true

I was playing with a radio I bought for Beth this morning. It's one of those radios that you can charge by cranking it up. You know, you crank it for five minutes, you get 30 seconds worth of juice.

So I ran across a speech by Martin Luther King. He's jamming on how the war in Vietnam took our attention away from civil rights, how we were so willing to send men and material to Indochina while we were unwilling to deal with our domestic problems. How arrogant the US was to think that it was capable of exerting its will wherever it wanted and for whatever purpose.

Hmm ...

How about this line -- "Some confuse voicing discontent with disloyalty."

Hmm ...

"We're our boys best friends -- it's time for them to come home from Vietnam."

"We have arrogantly thought that we had something to teach to other nations and nothing to learn from them . . . that we have some sacred mission to remove people from totalitarian rule."

WE HAVE LEARNED NOTHING FROM HISTORY.
