262*

Wherever Ichiro winds up -- and God bless the guy for still being so old fashioned as to hit for average -- the fact is that he did not break George Sisler's record.

George Sisler had 257 hits in 154 games. Ichiro did not have 257 after 154 games. Done. So you can say that Ichiro holds the record for hits in a season, but he did not break Sisler's record.

Check out the year Gourgeous George Sisler had in 1920:
Games 154

AB 631
R 137
H 257
2B 49
HR 19
RBI 122
BA .407
OBP .449
SLG .632
TB 399
Doing a little aritthmetic, Sisler had 86 extra base hits. Ichiro has 37 this year and is slugging .454.

And yes, I also don't think that Roger Maris broke Babe Ruth's record -- I'm consistent like that.
