Beware the sleeping dragon.

About 6 weeks ago I compared the process of replacing O'Connor to a Greek tragedy ... right on cue, here comes the hero.

Off-stage, all along, Kerry the Kid has been plotting, sharpening his knives. He's suffered a great defeat, and now he wants revenge. Great stuff. If he had shown this kind of nuts during the campaign he might even be president now. Well, probably not, but it would have been a more interesting contest for sure.

Will it work? Will the filibuster keep Alito off the Court?

Of course it won't work, everybody knows that.

But will it backfire? Is this move just what the Republicans need for 2006? OR will it rejuvenize -- and more importantly -- organize the Democrats around a standard-bearer?

Will the Republicans use the nuclear option or will they wait out a filibuster and make the Dems look obstructionist? Will Alito's wife cry again?

I've got to say, that for once it looks like the left is more organized than the right. The Republican leadership is vulnerable ... or are they? Great stuff.

AND FINALLY, will there even be a filibuster? If not, Kerry can start printing up his Hilary '08 bumperstickers right now because -- He. Will. Be. Toast. Great stuff.
